A new era in Zimbabwe...

After a trying few months with the peaceful removal of longtime president Robert Mugabe and now the results of the first elections coming in and confirming that Mr. Emmerson Mnangagwa has been elected as the new president of Zimbabwe I am hoping that for the next couple of years progress can be made and Zimbabwe can once again become the paradise we grew up in. Me and my family left Zimbabwe in 2002 when the problems began. My father lost his business and I had finished high school with no hope of any future in the country I was born in and loved. So I packed a suitcase, bought a one way ticket and left home. I have only been back once since then in 2007 and the situation was so bad that I didn’t ever want to visit again. The supermarkets were empty, there was no running water to bath and the roads were so badly destroyed that you couldn’t drive around. I remember going for a coffee with a friend and just as we sat down to order the electricity went out and we had to leave.

I am hoping that President Mnangagwa, who has given hope to so many of us will return our country to its former glory and I will one day be able to take my children to see the paradise I grew up in...good luck Mr. President!
